You don’t have to login to cPanel to create an entire backup of your files. You can easily backup all your files by navigating to the backup feature listed under your service.
- After logging in, hover under Services and click the cPanel service you’d like to manage.
- Select the account you want to generate a backup of.
- In the left column, you’ll see Backup Management. Click that.
- Click Create new backup.
Your backup will be placed in a queue. When the backup is ready, it’ll be available for you to download. You can refresh the page at anytime to see if the backup has been created. You’ll know the backup generation was successful when a green check mark is listed next to your backup file.
Your backup will be stored in the /home/username/ directory located right behind the /public_html directory. This protects your files from public access.
The backup will be labeled as backup-MM.DD.YYYY_HH-MM-SS_USERNAME.tar.gz.
Creating regular backups is good practice. You should safeguard your data whenever possible in unforeseeable events such as a misconfiguration of your website or a login compromise.
